£6 adv/frequent doggers/£7 full/£5 low income - limited capacity (Archway Room)
Hafdis Huld returns to the UK this spring with an entrancing new album written and recorded entirely in her picturesque wooden house in the mountains outside Reykjavik. The album will be released on 28th April (on Reveal Records for UK and OK!Good Records for USA). Appropriately called ‘Home’, this is a beautifully stripped back production with a simplicity and directness that showcase Hafdis’s pure and assured vocals to perfection.
As her worldwide fans have come to expect, there are songs that tell stories, songs that tap straight into the emotions and her trademark deceptively simple songs with a darker undercurrent. Every song has a story behind it; first single, ‘Queen Bee’ was written as a ‘thank you’ gift to a neighbouring farmer for giving her a dog but there’s a sinister element that belies the seemingly charming portrayal of a local beekeeper.
Once again, Hafdis has co-written with array of top class names include Ed Harcourt, Nik Kershaw, Boo Hewerdine, Tim Gordine, Calum MacColl and long time partner and musical collaborator Alisdair Wright who also produced the album. This is Hafdis’s first original new album in 4 years; after her 2010 much-synched album ‘Synchronised Swimmers’ she returned to Iceland and recorded a well-Feb-14Feb-14received album of traditional Icelandic songs.
Following a break to have her first child, she now makes a very welcome return to recording and touring. In May 2014 she will be touring the UK supporting Boo Hewerdine, before heading
off for dates in Europe and the USA. She will return for a UK headline tour in the autumn.
